At the Bintaro Design District (BDD) event, WOF Wooden and KICKYOURBUTT Project (KYB) collaborated on an alternative material. As a Good Design Award winner, KYB works with cellaflakes as a primary raw input — often mixed with masks, coffee grounds, or fabric waste. Here, the mix was sawdust.
FROM FUNCTION
BDD’s theme Envisioning Nature aligned with using raw materials more carefully. The exhibition title became FROM FUNCTION — a play on “form follows function,” asking how material origin also shapes what a piece can do.
Not only does form affect function — the materials we use influence function too.
F Series
From this board came the F Series: F Bench and F Stool. Both use the collaborative material and reduce solid-wood use by roughly 30%. Waste wood that would otherwise sit unused becomes reusable production stock — and a new catalog line.
